Aloha Business Association Board Meeting November 5, 2015

Board Members present: Sally Fabre, Karen Bolin, Michael Holcomb, and John Tyner Called to order at 7:45am

Treasurer’s Report – Mike Holcomb provided a report with a 10/31/15 data. October Income was

$680.00, October expenses were -$635.00 for a Net Profit of $45.00. $1,225.62 current account Balance.

FARMERS MARKET: PGE, Bank Account, Mt. Olivet, PayPal, Aloha High School. Kody will send an update after meeting with Kaylee Sommers and the Forest Grove Farmers Market.

Board Elections: This November Ballot, make sure that attendance is taken then we will be able to do a vote by hand. Slate of nominees just needs to appear in the E-Blast. We heard no new nominations from our membership.

Tree Lighting: 6-8pm still need a tree, but will be Saturday November 28th. Booths currently in ABA & Optimists other possible: Family Justice Center, Edwards Center, Bales

ARCC: Waiting to hear if a Special Tax District could be approved. Then we will know how to support and approach items like banner arms and beautification. We are already supporting the Aloha Community Farmers Market. Supporting CPO6, Mike is still attending the meetings. We currently need to figure out public board positions.

Library and WA County Forum: What sort of relationship can we connect between the two organizations? Better communication or meetings and cross outreach.

Membership – Nonprofits allowed to join at a $50 dollar fee. Removing the Warrior package. Website invoices needs to flip in order, most expensive membership on the top. Changes voted and approved by board.

Meetings/Programs – BOARD RETREAT January 9, 2016 from 9-12 at Karen Bolin’s office.

Karen Bolin went over speakers and topics lined up so far this year. Possible speakers and topics discussed: Mark Hass, Jeff Barker or Tobias Reed. Employment, how to hire or Marijuana sales.

November– ABA Elections, Tree Lighting, Breast Friends Becky Olson. Spotlight Speaker: Sonja Lindley- Belinda Pet Show.

December– Holiday Social, Metro Radio Music? Is the Library having a party to celebrate the levy passing? Aloha High School Bazaar. Susan or Bonnie Kahn.

February 2016– Jail-Ready to Work. Amanda from HomePlate with Employment Services. New PCC employer rep.

Membership – Need more members to sustain financially. Members need to bring more members. How can we cut costs? Less meetings per year? Monthly Eblast vs Weekly

October-Aloha Health Matters, Curves, Elements Massage and Song Bird Healing Arts Carol Zamarra. October 3rd clean-up crew on 185th, 8:30am meet until 10:00. Sunday October 11th Tree Planting Memorial for Karen Schouten. Trunk or Treating – Kody will reach out to our churches for holiday events.

Treasurer’s Report – Mike Holcomb provided a report with a 6/30/15 data. June Income was $500.00, June expenses were -$675.91 for a Net Loss of -$175.91. $2,028.20 current account Balance.

Membership – Mike Holcomb sending new renewals, very few for August. Kody Harris has sent 2nd Request for July renewals yesterday. As a group we went through the list of former members and pin pointed businesses to re-approach.

Meetings/Programs – Karen Bolin went over speakers and topics lined up so far this year.

July – Ceasefire Oregon Gun Policies for Businesses and Northwest Earth Institute for Eco Challenge.

August – Willamette River Water Supply, Clean Water Services/Tualatin Valley Water District, PGE, etc. Water Month!

July – Ceasefire Oregon Gun Policies for Businesses and Northwest Earth Institute for Eco Challenge. August – Willamette River Water Supply, Clean Water Services, PGE, etc. Water Month!

September – Levy speaker and Library

 

Outreach: Pedalpalooza Bike Ride June 13th at 10:00am, Arnold Park Concert July 2nd, National Night Out August 4th near Library, Good Neighbor Project August 23rd. We are going to order pin-wheels to distribute at these events, do a farmer’s market survey. 200-300 Red, White and Blue pin-wheel and print tags on them that say “Stewards on the path to 2040”

 

T.G.I.F. Social Hour 4:30-6pm, June-Karen Bolin will find a location, July will be at the Helvetia Winery, August Lupe’s or Buddies,

Aloha Business Association Board Meeting May 7, 2015

Called to order at 8:30am.

Meetings/Programs

Peppermill has informed us that they will now be charging a fee for the banquet room or a 20% gratuity per person. The option has been elected to have the 20% gratuity.

Sally Fabre will be the new proof reader of the Board and Meeting minutes.

Website is coming along. Confirmed that the Vision: “Stewards on the path to 2040” is going to remain and the Mission statement will also remain as is on the website. We need headshots or pictures of the board members, Kody Harris will request these.

Treasurer’s Report – Mike Holcomb provided a report with a 4/30/15 data. April Income was $700.00, April expenses were -$536.40 for a Net income of $163.60. Audit still needs further discussion and to be pursued.

Michael Holcomb will confirm and send $50.00 Donation for Tammy Springer. Going to speak to the Aloha High School staff and students about donating the $100 to a student project.

Membership – Mike Holcomb. Request for May renewal letters are going out next week.

Called to order at 8:50AM

Meeting Minutes Approved for January for February by consensus of members present.

Discussion on ABA Email: Agreed that there needs to be a info@alohabusinessassociation.com to respond to web inquiries and for Facebook responses.

Farmers Market Update-Kody Harris. Updated the Board about future costs and current topics being researched. Currently the Market needs a pro-bono web designer and a poster/marketing designer.

  • Name: Aloha Community Farmers Market: Serving Aloha, Reedville and Cooper Mountain
  • Meeting with Intel on March 16th. Financial Assistance from the ABA will be dependent on the funding provided by Intel.
  • Researching Liability Insurance (Policy requirements and Cost)
  • Manage My Market for web and Vendor Management $350-500 annually
  • Applying for Business License under the State of Oregon Non-Profit $50
  • Washington County Permit $200.00
  • Late summer we will apply for SNAP, Wic and EBT, along with the card reader.
  • Researching Port-a-Potties and Sanitation.

Treasurer’s Report – Mike Holcomb provided a report with a 2/28/15 data. Feb Income was $1,500.00, Feb expenses were $806.00 for a Net gain of $694.00. PayPal Fee’s 4x$4 = $16.00. Audit still needs further discussion and to be pursued. (Report posted to site)

Membership – Mike Holcomb. As of today, we count around 55 members who are current with their dues. Mike and Kody are working together to keep our membership roster current going forward. Renewal letters are up to date. April renewals going out next week. Correction to New Member form to say “One time listing…”.

-Karen and Kody have been reaching out to additional businesses to join the ABA and brainstorming future projects:

  • Great Clips, Coffee Station, 1st Honest Car Care, Postal Annex, H&W Carpets, Reliable Transmission.
  • Reaching out for restaurant guide and “Golden Rule”
  • T.G.I.F. Social Hour, who, what, where and when… bring ideas to next meeting.
  • Anniversary Listing for Founding Members to be listed in the Beaverton Resource Guide for the April News Letter.

Aloha Business Association Board Meeting Feb 2015

 

Board Members present: Carol Zamarra, Sally Fabre, John Tyner, Mike Holcomb, Karen Bolin

Called to order at 8:35AM

Each member asked to share why they were on the ABA Board and we had a brief discussion on how we would work together for the year. Motion made to elect Mike Holcomb as Treasurer, and John Tyner as Secretary of our Board. Seconded and Approved.

Revised Budget for 2015 presented by Mike. Karen made a few suggestions to make the income and the expenses balance for the year. John Tyner moved that we approved the revised budget, seconded, approved.

Community Partnerships – Sally Fabre expressed concern about the homeless youth that hang out at Bales T-way area sidewalks. What can ABA do to partner with businesses that are impacted by these kids? Discussion to be continued. Karen mentioned a need to support the Aloha High Marching Band that she heard about at the Optimist Club meeting. KB to explore these needs in more detail and come back with a specific proposal.

  • Aloha Days – July/August   Who will coordinate?
  • National Night Out   August – Suggest a new location to Darlene from Washington County Sheriff office.

Membership – Mike Holcomb working on paid members and sending out renewal notices. Final count around 50 members who are current with their dues. Mike and Kody are working together to keep our membership roster current going forward.

Treasurer’s Report – Mike provided several reports with January data. Jan Income was $370, Jan expenses were $747.50 for a Net loss of $377.50. Balance carry over from 2014 in US Bank is $1827.08, Pay pal $483.13 for a total of $2310.21. Mike suggests we arrange and pay for an annual audit. No action take on this suggestion at this time.

Communication – Karen reported on the website being updated by Troy with Cedar House Media. Slow process. KB to ask Eric Squires for photos to make the site more interesting. Other changes include the look of the page as well as functionality. Cost is about $1000.

Discussion on Facebook Control: Mike Holcomb and Kody to have ADMIN ability. Eric Squires and Becky Jarvis current FB ADMIN holders. A work in progress.

Karen wants to talk with ABA Restaurants about membership and getting an Aloha Restaurant Guide put together to publish in the Beaverton Valley Times in May for Mother’s Day. Also a Faith Guide to be published in Nov for Christmas season.

Mike Holcomb will attend the next CPO6 meeting tonight – topic on the new Park.

John Tyner reported on attending the Washington County Commission meeting on the South Beaverton Plan. Decision was to see how the roads will support the proposed housing before final approval is complete.

Sally to bring her laptop and clips from Leadercast telecast to share with the group during the Biz Builder Buzz time at our next meeting.
